McHenry County Fatal Car Crash
An unincorporated Woodstock fatal car crash occurred northwest of Woodstock on Saturday (December 28, 2019) afternoon. A 45-year-old Wonder Lake woman who was behind the wheel in a fatal, single-vehicle crash Saturday now faces a drunken driving charge. A passenger in her car, a 44-year-old Capron man, was killed in the collision, authorities said.
The crash happened in the 16000 block of Nelson Road in unincorporated Woodstock at 1:07 p.m. when the car went off the roadway and crashed into a tree, according to a news release from the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office.
The driver of the car (a 2009 Mitsubishi Galant) was identified as Shannon Velmont, 45, of Wonder Lake. After being extricated from the vehicle, she was flown to Javon Bea Hospital in Rockford for treatment of her accident injuries. Those accident injuries, although unspecified, are described as being serious injuries.
She faces various charges including driving under the influence of alcohol.
According to the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, both the driver and passenger were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident. There was also airbag deployment.
