According to information provided by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office (in a May 25, 2017 news release titled “Sheriff’s Office Investigates Double Fatal Crash“) the crash happened on U.S. Route 20, north of Harmony Road.  First responders went to the accident scene at 5:28 a.m.  The accident involved a “head-on collision” between a 1999 Volkswagen Jetta and a 2013 Ford F-550 Super Duty truck.

An excerpt from the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office news release:

Preliminary investigation indicates that the Volkswagen, driven by the 31-year-old-man, was traveling northbound on U.S. Route 20.  The Ford, driven by a 27-year-old Marengo man, was traveling southbound on U.S. Route 20.  For unknown reasons the driver of the Volkswagen lost control of his vehicle and it traveled into the southbound lane of traffic, crashing into the Ford.  Both vehicles exited the roadway to the west.  Motorists were detoured for several hours while the crash was investigated.
