Fatal Head-On Collision In Crystal Lake, Illinois

There was a “head-on collision” Monday evening (April 28, 2014) in Crystal Lake, Illinois.  One person died and one person sustained “life-threatening” injuries because of this crash.

According to the Crystal Lake Police Department, this fatal crash happened at approximately 5:45 p.m., as a Toyota sedan, traveling south on Pyott Road from Rakow Road crossed the center lane and hit a northbound Honda.  In turn, the Honda hit a northbound Chevrolet Tahoe.

The driver of the Honda was pronounced dead on the scene.

The driver of the Toyota had to be extricated from the vehicle, and was taken to Centegra Hospital in McHenry with injuries considered to be life-threatening.

The driver and passenger of the Tahoe were taken to Sherman Hospital in Elgin.

The Crystal Lake Police Department and the McHenry County Coroner’s Office are investigating the incident.

Roadside Safety Check (RSC) Scheduled In Crystal Lake, Illinois

The Illinois State Police (ISP) and Crystal Lake Police Department will conduct a Roadside Safety Check (RSC) during the weekend of May 3, 2014.

This RSC’s goals will include watching for vehicles being operated in an unsafe manner, as well as to look for other traffic safety problems, such as drivers who are driving under the influence (DUI).

Alcohol and drug impairment is a significant factor in nearly 40 percent of all fatal motor vehicle crashes in Illinois.  RSCs are designed to keep our roads safe by taking dangerous DUI offenders off the road.  This project is funded through the Illinois Department of Transportation, Division of Traffic Safety.

Motorcycle Accident In McHenry County

There was a motorcycle accident Saturday (April 19, 2014) in McHenry County in unincorporated Richmond Township.

According to preliminary reports, this motorcycle accident happened when a motorcycle collided with a semi truck shortly after 5:00 p.m. on Route 12.  According to a news release from the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, the motorcyclist was traveling westbound in the eastbound lane, and the semi tractor-trailer was traveling eastbound.  The collision happened in the 3900 block of Route 12.

The motorcyclist, identified only as a man from Wisconsin, was ejected from the motorcyclist.  He was flown by helicopter to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.  According to at least one media source, the injuries were not considered to be life-threatening.

The truck driver was treated at the accident scene.

McHenry County Bicycling Accident

There was a McHenry County bicycling accident today (April 2, 2014) in Crystal Lake.

This bicycling accident involved a 17-year-old girl that was riding a bicycle that was hit by a 20-year-old woman driving a Lexus.  The accident happened at approximately 5:50 p.m., at the intersection of Ackman Road and Westport Ridge.

An excerpt from the April 2, 2014 Daily Herald article titled “Bicyclist hit by car in Crystal Lake” :

Police say a 2006 Lexus driven by Emily Schlimm, 20, of Lakewood, was heading east on Ackman Road when it struck a 17-year-old girl who was bicycling south on Westport Ridge. The bicyclist rode through the intersection and into the path of the vehicle, which had the right of way, police said.

During the course of the accident, the girl was thrown onto the pavement and her bicycle was run over by the car.

Although the girl’s injuries were not considered to be life-threatening, she was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge by a “Flight for Life” helicopter.

The driver of the Lexus was not injured.

Fatal Vehicle Accident In Unincorporated McHenry County

There was a fatal single-vehicle crash early Sunday morning (March 30, 2014) in unincorporated McHenry County near Marengo, Illinois.

According to the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, this accident happened when a pickup truck crashed in the 800 block of Menge Road at approximately 3:40 a.m.  The accident happened after the pickup truck left the roadway, went into a ditch, and rolled over after going into the air.  The cause of the vehicle leaving the roadway is under investigation.

During the course of the accident the driver was ejected from the vehicle and died.

The driver of the pickup truck was identfied as Quinn G. Gieseke, 31, of Woodstock.

The Marengo Fire and Rescue squad assisted at the accident scene.

The accident is being investigated by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Accident Investigation Unit.

Truck And SUV Collide In Huntley, Illinois

There was a collision this morning (March 12, 2014) in Huntley involving a 2008 Ford Expedition SUV and a semi truck.

According to the Huntley Police Department, this crash happened at approximately 10:20 a.m., at the intersection of Route 47 and Kreutzer Road.

About 10:20 a.m a semi truck driven by a 44-year-old man from Sebastian, Texas was going south on Route 47 when it jackknifed and collided with the 2008 Ford Expedition driven by the Marengo woman who was going east on Kreutzer Road.

During the collision, both vehicles sustained substantial damage.  The woman driver of the SUV, identified only as a 40-year-old woman from Marengo, was taken via helicopter (Flight for Life) Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.

The driver of the truck was also hospitalized.

Three-Vehicle Accident Injures Woodstock Police Officer

There was a three-vehicle accident in Woodstock, Illinois on Monday night (March 3, 2014) that injured a Woodstock Police Officer.

According to the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, the accident happened at approximately 6:24 p.m. at the intersection of Route 14 and Dean Street in Woodstock.

According to preliminary details, a crash occurred when a Toyota Prius heading westbound on Route 14 attempted to turn left.  In doing so, it collided with the Woodstock Police car, which was traveling eastbound on Route 14.  In turn, the police car hit another vehicle, a Volkswagen, in the intersection.

The Woodstock Police Officer, identified as Eric Schmidtke, had to be extricated from his car, and he was first taken to Woodstock Hospital, and then flown to St. Anthony’s Hospital in Rockford.

The driver of the Prius, a 15-year-old, as well as an adult passenger, where both taken to Woodstock Hospital.

The driver of the Volkswagen was not injured during the accident.

Alcohol was not suspected as playing a role in the crash.  The juvenile driver of the Toyota Prius was cited for Failure to Yield when Turning Left.  The traffic crash is under investigation by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Accident Investigation Unit.

Two-Vehicle Accident Near Woodstock, Illinois

On Sunday, January 26, 2014, there was a two-vehicle accident in the 5400 block of Alden Road, near Woodstock, Illinois, in unincorporated Alden Township.

According to the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, emergency crews responded at approximately 4:43 p.m.

The investigation indicates that a 2013 Volkswagon Jetta was southbound Alden Road and a 2003 Honda Accord was northbound Alden Road.  The Jetta traveled into the opposite lane of traffic and the driver of the Honda tried to avoid the oncoming vehicle.  The Jetta collided with the Honda near the shoulder of the northbound lane of Alden Road.

At the end of the investigation into the collision, the driver of the Jetta faced charges including Aggravated DUI and DUI Drugs/Combination of Drugs.

Vehicle Accident Near Woodstock, Illinois

There was a “head-on collision” on Saturday (January 25, 2014) at approximately 10:08 a.m.  This McHenry County vehicle accident happened near the intersection of Alden Road and McCauley Road, near Woodstock in unincorporated Hartland Township.

An excerpt from the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office news release of January 27, 2014, titled “Sheriff’s Office Investigates A Two Vehicle Traffic Crash” :

Preliminary investigation indicated that a 2001 Chevrolet Blazer was travelling north and a 2006 Honda CRV travelling south on Alden Rd when the vehicles collided head on.

The two drivers of the vehicles were both taken in critical condition to local hospitals.  They have been identified as Ardene Raven, 77, of McHenry, and Vicki Rodriguez, 47, of Harvard.

According to the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, weather and road conditions are suspected to be factors in this accident.

The crash continues to be under investigation.
