On September 15, 2020, at 6:56 p.m., the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, Hebron-Alden-Greenwood Fire Protection District, and Mercyhealth MD-1 responded to a single vehicle motorcycle crash involving a 2018 Harley-Davidson which occurred on Johnson Road, north of Illinois Route 173.
The investigation revealed the Harley-Davidson had been traveling southbound on Johnson Road. For unknown reasons it left the roadway to the west and crashed while reentering the roadway.
The driver and sole rider of the Harley-Davidson, Jeff Koszuta, a 52-year-old Hawthorn Woods man, was ejected from the motorcycle and was flown by LifeNet Helicopter to Javon Bea Hospital-Riverside where he was listed in critical condition. Koszuta was not wearing a helmet.
The investigation also revealed Koszuta was operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. Koszuta was cited for driving under the influence of alcohol and failing to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
