Fatal Crash On 176 In Unincorporated Woodstock

Fatal Multi-Vehicle Crash In McHenry County

There was a fatal multi-vehicle collision Wednesday morning (November 16, 2016) in unincorporated Woodstock.  The crash happened on Route 176 and involved two cars and a semi truck.

According to preliminary crash investigation results provided by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, the accident happened at about 6:52 a.m., as a eastbound 2008 Pontiac Vibe “rear-ended” a 2013 Dodge Dart that was waiting to make a turn onto northbound Franklinville Road.  That collision forced the Dart into the westbound lane of Route 176, where the Dart was struck by a westbound Peterbilt semi dump truck.  In this second collision, the semi truck rolled over and struck trees on the side of the road.

The truck driver, identified as a 55-year-old man from Crystal Lake, was declared dead at the accident scene by the McHenry County Coroner’s Office.

The drivers of the Pontiac Vibe (a 28-year-old man from Woodstock) and Dodge Dart (a 29-year-old female from Marengo) were both taken to hospitals for evaluation.  At the time of the accident, both of these drivers were wearing seat belts and both vehicles had their airbags deploy.
