Bus-SUV Collision In McHenry County

There was a bus-SUV collision near Woodstock Thursday morning (January 11, 2018).  Eight people were injured in the accident.

The bus was a small bus and the SUV was identified as a Hyundai Santa Fe.

The accident happened just after 8:15 a.m. at Frankinville Road and Perkins Road.

The eight people injured were taken to various Centegra Hospitals for medical treatment.  The injuries were considered to be non-life-threatening in nature.

The accident, including its cause, remains under investigation by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office.

There was a collision between a semi truck and minivan near the intersection of Route 14 and Hughes Road unincorporated McHenry County (near Woodstock) early Tuesday morning, March 28, 2017.

The crash occurred just before 3:30 a.m. near the intersection of Route 14 and Hughes Road in unincorporated McHenry County. A 2009 Volvo semi pulling a partially loaded 53-foot trailer was traveling west on Route 14 and struck a 2005 Dodge Caravan traveling north on Hughes Road in the intersection. A preliminary investigation revealed the Dodge failed to yield right of way from the stop sign, authorities said.

During the collision the truck rolled over.

Both the driver of the semi truck and minivan were pinned in the vehicles and had to be extricated by the fire department.

The driver of the minivan – a 67-year-old woman from Richmond – and the 65-year-old man driving the semi truck – were taken to Centegra Hospital in McHenry for treatment of their accident injuries.  Both drivers’ injuries were considered to be life-threatening in nature.

The crash investigation is being conducted by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Crash Investigations Unit and the Illinois State Police (ISP).

Fatal Crash On 176 In Unincorporated Woodstock

Fatal Multi-Vehicle Crash In McHenry County

There was a fatal multi-vehicle collision Wednesday morning (November 16, 2016) in unincorporated Woodstock.  The crash happened on Route 176 and involved two cars and a semi truck.

According to preliminary crash investigation results provided by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, the accident happened at about 6:52 a.m., as a eastbound 2008 Pontiac Vibe “rear-ended” a 2013 Dodge Dart that was waiting to make a turn onto northbound Franklinville Road.  That collision forced the Dart into the westbound lane of Route 176, where the Dart was struck by a westbound Peterbilt semi dump truck.  In this second collision, the semi truck rolled over and struck trees on the side of the road.

The truck driver, identified as a 55-year-old man from Crystal Lake, was declared dead at the accident scene by the McHenry County Coroner’s Office.

The drivers of the Pontiac Vibe (a 28-year-old man from Woodstock) and Dodge Dart (a 29-year-old female from Marengo) were both taken to hospitals for evaluation.  At the time of the accident, both of these drivers were wearing seat belts and both vehicles had their airbags deploy.

There was a two-vehicle collision Monday afternoon (August 22, 2016) on Route 176 and Briarwood Road in Crystal Lake.

About 4 p.m. Aug. 22, a 1990 GMC semitruck with a fully loaded trailer was traveling west on Route 176 approaching Briarwood Road when it struck a 2013 Ford Escape stopped and facing south on Briarwood Road, Crystal Lake Police Deputy Chief Tom Kotlowski said.

The driver of the truck, 25-year-old Robert Anthony, told police he attempted to stop while the light was turning from green to yellow, but could not, Kotlowski said.

The driver of the SUV, Kathy Jones, 53, was flown from the accident scene.  She had a traumatic brain injury.

The truck driver was not injured during the accident.

There was a two-vehicle crash Tuesday evening (May 26, 2015) in Crystal Lake.  The accident happened at Pingree Road and Three Oaks Road.

The Crystal Lake Fire Department responded to the accident at approximately 6:00 p.m.

Two people were taken to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington for treatment of their accident injuries.  The injuries were considered to be “non-life-threatening” in nature.

There was a four-vehicle accident on Route 14 in Crystal Lake Tuesday (October 28, 2014) in which one person was injured.

Emergency responders arrived at the accident scene at approximately 1:00 p.m.  According to Crystal Lake Police, the accident happened as Mary Beyer, 81, was attempting to exit a private drive on the west side of Route 14.  In doing so, her vehicle struck two vehicles, traveled a short distance, and hit another vehicle.

Beyer was injured and taken to Centegra Hospital in McHenry.

Fatal Vehicle Collision In McHenry County

There was a fatal vehicle collision in McHenry County on Monday, August 25, 2014.  This was a “head-on collision” involving a car and school bus.

The crash happened at 6:44 a.m. on the 17200 block of East Coral Road in unincorporated Coral Township, according to the McHenry County Sheriff’s office.  Responders included members of the Marengo Rescue Squad; Union Fire Protection District; Illinois State Police; McHenry County Coroner’s Office; Coral Township Highway Department; and McHenry County Sheriff’s Office.

The accident happened when a car traveling eastbound on East Coral Road crossed into the westbound lane, and in doing so struck a school bus.

According to the McHenry County Coroner’s Office, the driver of the car, identified as Evan C. Peterson, 24, of Union, was declared dead at the accident scene.

The driver of the school bus, identified as being 66 years old, was taken to Woodstock Centegra Hospital with minor injuries and then released.

Crystal Lake Vehicle Accident Injures Three People

There was a rollover crash Saturday morning (July 19, 2014) in Crystal Lake.  The accident involved two vehicles and three people were injured.

According to the Crystal Lake Police Department, the accident happened at approximately 10:10 a.m. on Route 176 near North Virginia Street.

The accident involved a Chevy Blazer, which had exited a private drive onto Route 176, being hit by a Chevy pickup truck.  During the collision, in which the Blazer was struck on the driver’s side door, the Blazer rolled over onto its side.

The driver of the Blazer, was identified as Zandra Iandola, 20, of McHenry.  The passenger in the Blazer was identified as Kayla Brehmer, 23, of McHenry.  Both were taken to Centegra Hospital in Woodstock with injuries considered to be non-life-threatening.

The driver of the pickup truck was identified as Donald Mecko, 73, of Palatine.  He was also taken to Centegra with non-life-threatening injuries.

Man Dies Near Hebron, Illinois After Falling Off Golf Cart

There was a fatal accident Sunday (May 4, 2014) in unincorporated Hebron.

This accident happened as a man was riding on the back of a golf cart, and for unknown reasons, fell off the back of it.

The man was identified as Stephen Canfield, 20, of Harvard.

An excerpt from the McHenry County Sheriff’s Department press release of May 5, 2014, titled “Harvard man dies after falling off of golf cart near Hebron” :

Preliminary investigation indicated that a 1996 Ingersoll Rand Club Car golf cart was headed southbound on Johnson Road, north of Illinois Route 173, when one of the back seat passengers, Stephen Canfield, for unknown reasons fell from the back of the golf cart. Stephen was transported to Centegra Woodstock Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Emergency responders, including the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, as well as the Hebron-Alden-Greenwood Fire Protection District, responded to the accident scene at approximately 12:05 a.m. Sunday.

Alcohol use is suspected as a contributing factor.  The crash is still under investigation by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Crash Investigation Unit and McHenry County Coroner’s Office.
