Fatal McHenry County Bicycle Accident

There was a fatal bicycle accident Tuesday night (August 15, 2017) in Woodstock.  The accident happened at the intersection of Route 47 and Route 14.

The accident happened as a bicyclist was riding northbound on Route 47 at approximately 7:33 p.m.  At that time, the bicyclist was struck by a 2007 Chevy Tahoe in the intersection of Route 47 and Route 14.

A preliminary investigation shows James was heading north on his bike on Route 47 when he was struck by a 2007 Chevy Tahoe in the intersection of Route 47 and Route 14, according to a news release. The Tahoe was heading east on Route 47 and witnesses said the vehicle had a solid green light at the time of the crash, police said.

According to the McHenry County Coroner, the bicyclist was identified as Robert Amos James, 25, of Woodstock.  He was declared dead after being taken to Centegra Hospital in Woodstock.

An autopsy performed on James revealed he died from blunt trauma to the head, chest and abdomen, Majewski said. Toxicology testing is pending.

The crash investigation continues.  At this time no citations have been issued in relation to the accident.

There was a fatal bicycle accident Sunday evening (September 20, 2015) in Woodstock.

Details on the accident, and especially its causes, appear limited at this time.

According to police, the accident happened when a work van struck the cyclist.  The accident happened at the intersection of Route 14 and Kishwaukee Valley Road.

Flight for Life was called at 7:40 p.m.

The bicyclist, currently only identified as an 18-year-old man, later died.

The driver of the van refused medical treatment.

There was a bicycle accident Tuesday (June 9, 2015) in Veteran Acres Park.

The Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department says that they were alerted to the accident shortly before 7:00 p.m.  The accident happened on the Prairie Trail Bike Path.

The reason for the bicycle accident was not cited.

According to the Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department, the woman was transported via a “Flight for Life” helicopter due to the nature of her injuries.  She was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville for treatment of her accident injuries.

There was a McHenry County bicycle accident on Wednesday (July 30, 2014) in which a bicyclist was struck by a car in Crystal Lake, Illinois.

This bicycle accident happened at approximately 5:00 p.m., at the intersection of Heaven’s Gate and Miller Road.

According to Crystal Lake Police, the accident happened as a man driving a Chevy Trailblazer SUV was heading west on Miller Road and attempted to turn left onto Heaven’s Gate.  In doing so, he struck the bicyclist, who was heading east on Miller Road.

The bicyclist was identified as Kevin R. Young, 28, of Arlington Heights.  He was taken by an Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Rescue ambulance to Sherman Hospital in Elgin.  His injuries, although believed to be serious, were not considered to be life-threatening.

There was a McHenry County bicycling accident today (April 2, 2014) in Crystal Lake.

This bicycling accident involved a 17-year-old girl that was riding a bicycle that was hit by a 20-year-old woman driving a Lexus.  The accident happened at approximately 5:50 p.m., at the intersection of Ackman Road and Westport Ridge.

An excerpt from the April 2, 2014 Daily Herald article titled “Bicyclist hit by car in Crystal Lake” :

Police say a 2006 Lexus driven by Emily Schlimm, 20, of Lakewood, was heading east on Ackman Road when it struck a 17-year-old girl who was bicycling south on Westport Ridge. The bicyclist rode through the intersection and into the path of the vehicle, which had the right of way, police said.

During the course of the accident, the girl was thrown onto the pavement and her bicycle was run over by the car.

Although the girl’s injuries were not considered to be life-threatening, she was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge by a “Flight for Life” helicopter.

The driver of the Lexus was not injured.
