Single-Car Fatal Crash In McHenry County

There was a single-car crash Wednesday morning (September 27, 2017) near McCullom Lake.  The accident appears to have involved a loss of vehicle control for a currently undetermined reason.

According to information provided by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, first responders were dispatched to the accident scene at approximately 10:19 a.m.  The accident scene was in the 5400 block of Flanders Road.

A preliminary investigation into the crash indicates that a 2004 Dodge Ram, traveling eastbound on Flanders Road, went off the roadway to the north, then came back onto the road before veering off the road to the south.  The pickup truck then struck a tree.

The driver, a 61-year-old man from Lake Villa, was declared dead after being taken to Centegra Hospital in McHenry.

He was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.  The accident remains under investigation.

Unincorporated Harvard Fatal Rollover Crash

Fatal McHenry County Car Rollover Crash

There was a fatal car rollover accident Saturday evening (September 23, 2017) in unincorporated Harvard.

According to information provided by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office (in a September 25 media release titled “Sheriff’s Office Investigates A Single Vehicle Fatal Traffic Crash“) first responders (the Harvard Fire Protection District and McHenry County Sheriff’s Police) went to the accident scene at approximately 7:05 p.m.  The accident scene was in the 6500 block of White Oak Road.

An excerpt from the media release:

The investigation indicated that a 2015 Dodge Dart was traveling eastbound on Hunter Road. The driver of the Dodge failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection of Hunter Road and White Oaks Road.  The vehicle proceeded through the intersection and over a berm west of the intersection, which resulted in it going airborne and landing on its roof.

The driver and sole occupant was pronounced dead at the scene.  He was wearing his seat belt and alcohol does not appear to be a contributing factor at this time.

The driver was identified as Matthew D. Grey, 39, of Wauconda.

An autopsy determined he died as a result of traumatic positional asphyxia.

Fatal Crystal Lake SUV-Motorcycle Collision

Fatal McHenry County Motorcycle Collision

There was a fatal motorcycle accident Sunday night (September 24, 2017) in Crystal Lake.  The accident involved a collision between a Harley-Davidson motorcycle and a Ford Expedition SUV.

Details on the accident appear somewhat limited at this time.

According to Crystal Lake Police, police and fire personnel were called to the accident scene at approximately 8:50 p.m.  The accident scene was at the intersection of Virginia Road and James R. Rakow Road.

The Crystal Lake Police Department’s Accident Investigation Team has determined in preliminary investigation that a 17-year-old male teenager, of Crystal Lake, driving a blue Ford Expedition was southbound on Virginia Road when he turned left onto James R. Rakow Road and struck the motorcyclist in the intersection. The teen was not identified because he is a minor. There were no other injuries in the crash.

The motorcyclist, later identified as Peter G. O’Grady, 63, of Crystal Lake , was taken to a local hospital for treatment of his accident injuries.  He later died.

The accident investigation is ongoing and is being conducted by the Crystal Lake Police Department and McHenry County Coroner’s Office.

Double-Fatal Car Crash In Unincorporated McHenry County

Fatal Car Crash In McHenry County

Two men died following a single-car crash on Saturday night (September 16, 2017) in unincorporated Nunda Township.  A third man was injured.

According to information provided by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office (in the September 18, 2017 press release titled “Sheriff’s Office Investigates Fatal Traffic Crash,”) the crash involved a car carrying three men when the car left the roadway and crashed for an unknown reason.

An excerpt from the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office release mentioned above:

 The investigation indicates that at 11:48 p.m., on September 16th, a 2001 Ford Explorer was traveling southbound in the 1400 block of S. Lilly Lake Road when it ran off of the roadway and struck a tree.

The driver, a 29-year-old male, was entrapped in the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.  The rear seat passenger, a 33-year-old male, was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.  The front seat passenger, a 23-year-old man was transported to Centegra Hospital-McHenry for non-life-threatening injuries.  All occupants of the Ford were from Crystal Lake.

The investigation indicates that the front seat passenger and driver were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash.  The passenger in the back seat was not.

As discussed in the September 19 Crystal Lake Patch article titled “Coroner IDs Crystal Lake Men Killed In Weekend Crash,” the driver who was killed was identified as Allan Javier Sanchez Gamez, 31, of Crystal Lake; and the passenger in the back seat was Timoteo Guzman Mejia, 33, of Crystal Lake.

Gamez died died from blunt trauma of the head and chest, according to the coroner’s office news release. And an autopsy revealed Mejia died from blunt trauma to the head, chest and abdomen. Toxicology testing is pending.

The cause of the crash is being investigated.  The accident investigation is being conducted by McHenry County Sheriff’s Traffic Crash Investigations Unit and the McHenry County Coroner’s Office.

Motorcycle Collision In Unincorporated Woodstock, Illinois

Motorcycle-Car Collision In McHenry County

There was a motorcycle accident Saturday morning (September 9, 2017) in unincorporated Woodstock.  Following the collision between a motorcycle and car, the motorcyclist was in critical condition.

An excerpt from the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, as seen in a September 9, 2017 media release titled “Sheriff’s Office Investigates Serious Injury Motorcycle Crash“:

An investigation indicated that at 7:26 a.m., on Saturday, September 9, a 2001 Suzuki motorcycle was headed eastbound on U.S. Route 120 east of Raffel Road. The driver of the Suzuki crossed over the double yellow centerline attempting to pass a line of cars.  A 2002 Buick Century was slowing to turn left into a parking lot. As the Buick turned the motorcycle collided with the Buick, ejecting the driver from the motorcycle.

The motorcyclist, identified as a 20-year-old male, was wearing a motorcycle helmet at the time of the collision.  He was flown to Condell Hospital in Libertyville for treatment of his accident injuries, which were considered to be serious injuries.  The driver of the Buick was not hurt during the accident.
