Fatal McHenry County Collision Involving SUV And Semi Truck

On Monday evening (November 28, 2016) there was a fatal crash involving a SUV and semi truck in unincorporated Marengo.

According to preliminary crash investigation findings from the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, the accident happened at the intersection of US Route 20 and Harmony Road.

The crash happened as a Dodge Durango was traveling eastbound on Harmony Road, and failed to yield the right of way from the stop sign.  A semi truck traveling northbound on US Route 20 struck the Durango in the intersection.  Both vehicles left the roadway following the collision.

First responders (including the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, McHenry County Conservation District, Marengo Police Department, and the Huntley Fire Protection District) went to the accident scene at 7:05 p.m.

The driver of the Dodge Durango died during the accident.  He was later identified as Malone D. Deloncker, 29, of Elgin.  At the time of the crash the airbags deployed in the SUV, but a seat belt was not being used.

The driver of the semi truck, identified as a 59-year-old man from Hanover Park, was taken to Centegra Hospital in Huntley for medical treatment of his injuries, and was listed in good condition.

The intersection, authorities told the Daily Herald, is known by emergency personnel as being dangerous.

“Over the years, there’s been a lot of fatalities,” Huntley Battalion Chief Tim Flannigan told the Daily Herald. “It’s a T intersection, high speed and the view is blocked for people coming off of the I-90 interchange.”

The crash investigation is ongoing by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Major Traffic Crash Investigations Unit, the Illinois State Police (ISP) and the McHenry County Coroner’s Office.

Fatal SUV-Box Truck Collision In Unincorporated Huntley

Fatal Traffic Collision In McHenry County

There was a fatal traffic collision Wednesday evening (November 23, 2016) in unincorporated Huntley.

According to preliminary information provided by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, the accident happened on U.S. Route 20 at Harmony Road.  At 6:43 p.m., a 1999 Ford Expedition SUV, that was traveling northbound on U.S. Route 20, collided with a Hino box truck.  The Hino box truck had been traveling east on Harmony Road, and it did not stop for a stop sign.

The driver of the SUV, later identified as a John DiMauro, 54, of Woodstock, was taken to Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin for treatment of his accident injuries.  He was later pronounced dead.  At the time of the accident he was not wearing a seat belt.

The driver of the box truck, identified as a 24-year-old man from Chicago, was also taken to Advocate Sherman Hospital where he was treated and released.

This fatal McHenry County collision remains under investigation by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Major Crash Investigations Unit and the Kane County Coroner’s Office.

Fatal Pedestrian Accident In Unincorporated Woodstock

Fatal McHenry County Pedestrian Accident

On Saturday (November 19, 2016) there was a fatal pedestrian accident in unincorporated Woodstock.  The accident happened on Illinois Route 47 as a pickup truck stuck a pedestrian as the man was attempting to cross the roadway.

According to preliminary crash investigation results provided by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office (in a media release titled “Sheriff’s Office Investigates Fatal Pedestrian Crash“) the accident happened at 11:10 p.m. as a Ford F150 was traveling northbound on Illinois Route 47.  When the truck was in the 1800 block, it struck the man.

At that location the roadway is unlit and there is no crosswalk.

The pedestrian was treated at the scene by Sheriff’s personnel and the Woodstock Fire Protection District, but succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. Toxicology is pending on the pedestrian through the Coroner’s office.

The McHenry County Coroner’s Office identified the pedestrian as Eduardo M. Olivia Masse.  An excerpt from the November 21, 2016 Crystal Lake Patch article titled “Coroner IDs Man Killed While Crossing Route 47“:

An autopsy performed on Monday revealed Masse died of blunt force injuries to the head, chest and abdomen, according to the coroners office. Toxicology is pending on the pedestrian through the coroner’s office, authorities said.

The driver of the pickup truck was not injured during the crash.

The traffic accident investigation is being conducted by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Major Crash Investigations Unit and the McHenry County Coroner’s Office.

Fatal Crash On 176 In Unincorporated Woodstock

Fatal Multi-Vehicle Crash In McHenry County

There was a fatal multi-vehicle collision Wednesday morning (November 16, 2016) in unincorporated Woodstock.  The crash happened on Route 176 and involved two cars and a semi truck.

According to preliminary crash investigation results provided by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, the accident happened at about 6:52 a.m., as a eastbound 2008 Pontiac Vibe “rear-ended” a 2013 Dodge Dart that was waiting to make a turn onto northbound Franklinville Road.  That collision forced the Dart into the westbound lane of Route 176, where the Dart was struck by a westbound Peterbilt semi dump truck.  In this second collision, the semi truck rolled over and struck trees on the side of the road.

The truck driver, identified as a 55-year-old man from Crystal Lake, was declared dead at the accident scene by the McHenry County Coroner’s Office.

The drivers of the Pontiac Vibe (a 28-year-old man from Woodstock) and Dodge Dart (a 29-year-old female from Marengo) were both taken to hospitals for evaluation.  At the time of the accident, both of these drivers were wearing seat belts and both vehicles had their airbags deploy.

Fatal Rollover Crash In Unincorporated Hebron Township

Fatal Crash In McHenry County 

There was a fatal rollover crash early Monday morning (November 14, 2016) in unincorporated Hebron Township.  The crash led to the death of a 65-year-old man.

According to preliminary crash investigation findings provided by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office (in a media release titled “Greenwood Rd. Fatal Traffic Crash“) the accident happened at approximately 1:51 a.m., as a 2013 Jeep Wrangler was traveling southbound on Greenwood Road, north of Thayer Road.  At that time, for a currently unknown reason, the Jeep left the roadway to the west.  It then struck a culvert and overturned.

During the accident, the driver of the Jeep was ejected from the vehicle.  The driver was identified as Frank S. Gianfortune, 65, of Huntley.  He was declared dead at the accident scene.

Both of the Jeep’s airbags deployed during the crash.
