According to preliminary crash investigation findings from the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, the accident happened at the intersection of US Route 20 and Harmony Road.
The crash happened as a Dodge Durango was traveling eastbound on Harmony Road, and failed to yield the right of way from the stop sign. A semi truck traveling northbound on US Route 20 struck the Durango in the intersection. Both vehicles left the roadway following the collision.

The driver of the Dodge Durango died during the accident. He was later identified as Malone D. Deloncker, 29, of Elgin. At the time of the crash the airbags deployed in the SUV, but a seat belt was not being used.
The driver of the semi truck, identified as a 59-year-old man from Hanover Park, was taken to Centegra Hospital in Huntley for medical treatment of his injuries, and was listed in good condition.
