Fatal Rollover Crash In Unincorporated Marengo

Fatal McHenry County Rollover Accident 

There was a fatal rollover car accident Friday (August 21, 2015) in unincorporated Marengo.

According to the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, a preliminary investigation indicates that a 2003 Dodge Ram pickup truck was heading southbound on Maple Street, when it left the roadway, then returned to the roadway, and then left the roadway again.  The pickup truck then rolled over, but landed upright.

Emergency responders went to the accident scene shortly before 1:30 p.m.

The driver of the pickup truck was taken to Centegra Hospital in Woodstock, then flown to St. Anthony’s Medical Center in Rockford.

He was later pronounced dead.

The driver was identified as Michael Meyerhoff, 65, of Marengo.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, he was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident, but there was no airbag deployment during the accident.

The accident remains under investigation by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Traffic Crash Investigations Unit and the Winnebago County Coroner’s Office.

Pedestrian Accident In Cary

McHenry County Pedestrian Accident

There was a pedestrian accident Tuesday night (August 18, 2015) in Cary.

The accident happened as a man, identified as a 45-year-old man from Fox River Grove, was hit by a car while he was walking westbound along Route 14.  The accident happened in downtown Cary.

An excerpt from the August 19, 2015 Daily Herald article titled “Fox River Grove man hospitalized after being hit by car“, quoting Deputy Chief Jim Fillmore:

“The pedestrian was actually crossing Route 14 … about 300 feet west of the intersection of West Main so he wasn’t using a crossing,” Fillmore said. “(The intersection) is controlled by a traffic light that assists the pedestrians but sometimes they jaywalk. There have been a few (accidents) in the past.”

The man suffered injuries that were considered serious in nature.

He was taken to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington.

The car that struck him was a 1998 Mitsubishi, driven by a 33-year-old woman from Cary.

Fatal Pedestrian Accident Near McHenry

There was a fatal pedestrian accident Tuesday morning (August 4, 2015) near McHenry.

An excerpt from the Northwest Herald article (with video) of August 4, 2015 titled “Johnsburg pedestrian killed on Route 120 near McHenry“:

Robert P. Choate Jr., 41, walked onto Route 120 near Kent Road outside McHenry before 8:55 a.m., according to a news release from McHenry County Coroner Ann Majewski. He was struck by a box truck, stood up and continued walking when he was hit by a semitrailer in an eastbound lane of Route 120, officials said.

Choate was taken by the McHenry Township Fire Protection District firefighters to Centegra Hospital McHenry for treatment of his injuries.  He was pronounced dead at 9:42 a.m.

Fatal Motorcycle Accident In McHenry County

There was a fatal McHenry County motorcycle accident Sunday morning (August 2, 2015) in unincorporated Crystal Lake.

According to the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, emergency responders went to the accident scene at approximately 11:10 a.m.  The crash happened on Northwest Highway (U.S. Route 14) east of Sands Road.

An excerpt from the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office media release of August 3, 2015 titled “Sheriffs Office Investigates Fatal Motorcycle Crash“:

Preliminary investigation indicates that a 2009 Yamaha Raider S motorcycle was traveling eastbound on Northwest Highway at approximately 11:10 a.m. Sunday when it entered the westbound lane of travel striking two vehicles; a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer and a 2014 Ford Fusion. The impact caused the Yamaha to exit the north side of the roadway where it came to a rest in the tall grass.

The motorcyclist, identified as Vincent E. Franchi, 50, of Arlington Heights, was taken to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital for treatment of his accident injuries.  He was pronounced dead.

The driver of the Chevy Trailblazer and a passenger were not injured during the crash.

The driver of the Ford Fusion suffered minor wrist injuries and was treated at the accident scene.

This fatal Illinois motorcycle accident is under investigation by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Traffic Crash Investigation Unit.
