Fatal Train Accident In McHenry County

There was a fatal McHenry County train accident involving a Metra train striking a vehicle in unincorporated Woodstock on Wednesday, February 25, 2015.

According to authorities, the accident happened shortly before 5:00 p.m., at the Lily Pond Road railroad crossing.  While this accident is still under investigation, police believe that snow and slippery conditions played a role in the accident.

Woodstock Police Chief Robert Lowen said preliminary investigating indicates the recent snowfall was a major contributor to the crash.

“This is just very tragic … just horrible timing,” Lowen said, adding it appears the teen attempted to brake, but the vehicle instead slid onto the tracks just as the train was coming. “Right now it appears this was an accident related to the icy road conditions.”

The driver of the vehicle was identified by the McHenry County Coroner as Amanda L. Williams, 19, of Woodstock.  She was declared dead at the accident scene.

This accident remains under investigation.

Driver Charged With DUI After Crystal Lake Accident

McHenry County Crash Leads To DUI Charge

A crash happened at approximately 2:17 a.m. Sunday (February 8, 2015) in Crystal Lake, IL.

The crash happened at the intersection of Route 176 and Oak Street in Crystal Lake, and involved two vehicles.  According to police, one of the vehicles, a 1996 Chevrolet Trailblazer, failed to stop at a stop sign and collided with a 2000 Saab.  The Saab then hit a traffic light and utility pole.

The Trailblazer was driven by Ruben Zendejas, 24, of Hoffman Estates. Zendejas sustained minor injuries and was taken to Centegra Hospital in Woodstock where he was treated and released.  According to the Crystal Lake Police Department, he was charged with aggravated DUI and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

A 22-year-old man from Algonquin who was a passenger in the Saab,  Brandon Ferreira, 22, of Algonquin, sustained serious accident injuries.  After being extricated from the vehicle, he was taken to Centegra Hospital in McHenry.

Dale Finucane, Ferreira’s stepfather, said Ferreira was transported to Northwestern Hospital in Chicago early Sunday where he underwent surgery to repair a broken and dislocated neck. Finucane said his stepson has movement in his arms but cannot grip his hands and has no movement below his chest.

The crash remains under investigation by the Crystal Lake Police Department.

Car Crash In Algonquin Hurts Three People

McHenry County Head-On Collision

There was a “head-on collision” Wednesday evening (February 4, 2015) after which a man from Crystal Lake was charged with DUI.

According to police, the collision happened along Route 62 just west of Countryside Drive in Algonquin.  Police were called to the accident scene at approximately 6:25 p.m.

The accident happened as a westbound Honda Odyssey minivan crossed the center line and collided “head-on” with two other vehicles.

The driver of the Honda Odyssey, identified as William W. McGuire, 59, of Crystal Lake, was taken to Advocate Sherman Hospital for treatment of accident injuries.

McGuire was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, not driving on the right side of the road and illegal lane usage.

The drivers of the two other vehicles involved in the collision were also hurt in the crash and taken to Advocate Sherman Hospital.  They have been identified as Barbara Breese, 57, of Crystal Lake, and Connie Patinella, 52, of Crystal Lake.
