Fatal McHenry County Car Accident

Fatal Head-On Collision In Crystal Lake, Illinois

There was a “head-on collision” Monday evening (April 28, 2014) in Crystal Lake, Illinois.  One person died and one person sustained “life-threatening” injuries because of this crash.

According to the Crystal Lake Police Department, this fatal crash happened at approximately 5:45 p.m., as a Toyota sedan, traveling south on Pyott Road from Rakow Road crossed the center lane and hit a northbound Honda.  In turn, the Honda hit a northbound Chevrolet Tahoe.

The driver of the Honda was pronounced dead on the scene.

The driver of the Toyota had to be extricated from the vehicle, and was taken to Centegra Hospital in McHenry with injuries considered to be life-threatening.

The driver and passenger of the Tahoe were taken to Sherman Hospital in Elgin.

The Crystal Lake Police Department and the McHenry County Coroner’s Office are investigating the incident.

Roadside Safety Check (RSC) Scheduled In Crystal Lake, Illinois

The Illinois State Police (ISP) and Crystal Lake Police Department will conduct a Roadside Safety Check (RSC) during the weekend of May 3, 2014.

This RSC’s goals will include watching for vehicles being operated in an unsafe manner, as well as to look for other traffic safety problems, such as drivers who are driving under the influence (DUI).

Alcohol and drug impairment is a significant factor in nearly 40 percent of all fatal motor vehicle crashes in Illinois.  RSCs are designed to keep our roads safe by taking dangerous DUI offenders off the road.  This project is funded through the Illinois Department of Transportation, Division of Traffic Safety.

Motorcycle Accident In McHenry County

There was a motorcycle accident Saturday (April 19, 2014) in McHenry County in unincorporated Richmond Township.

According to preliminary reports, this motorcycle accident happened when a motorcycle collided with a semi truck shortly after 5:00 p.m. on Route 12.  According to a news release from the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, the motorcyclist was traveling westbound in the eastbound lane, and the semi tractor-trailer was traveling eastbound.  The collision happened in the 3900 block of Route 12.

The motorcyclist, identified only as a man from Wisconsin, was ejected from the motorcyclist.  He was flown by helicopter to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.  According to at least one media source, the injuries were not considered to be life-threatening.

The truck driver was treated at the accident scene.

The driver of the motorcycle was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Excessive speed by the motorcycle was believed to be a factor in the crash.

There was a report today (April 7, 2014) of a speeding vehicle in McHenry County.  The incident happened on Saturday (April 5, 2014).

A man was charged with reckless driving after police said they clocked him traveling at more than 100 mph in a 50 mph zone.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s office said today that 25-year-old Nicholas J. Brain, of Woodstock, was stopped in a red Ford Mustang on McCullom Lake Road near Wonder Lake at about 9:35 p.m. Saturday.

Crystal Lake, Illinois Bicycling Accident

McHenry County Bicycling Accident

There was a McHenry County bicycling accident today (April 2, 2014) in Crystal Lake.

This bicycling accident involved a 17-year-old girl that was riding a bicycle that was hit by a 20-year-old woman driving a Lexus.  The accident happened at approximately 5:50 p.m., at the intersection of Ackman Road and Westport Ridge.

An excerpt from the April 2, 2014 Daily Herald article titled “Bicyclist hit by car in Crystal Lake” :

Police say a 2006 Lexus driven by Emily Schlimm, 20, of Lakewood, was heading east on Ackman Road when it struck a 17-year-old girl who was bicycling south on Westport Ridge. The bicyclist rode through the intersection and into the path of the vehicle, which had the right of way, police said.

During the course of the accident, the girl was thrown onto the pavement and her bicycle was run over by the car.

Although the girl’s injuries were not considered to be life-threatening, she was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge by a “Flight for Life” helicopter.

The driver of the Lexus was not injured.
